F to the T, the GOP, and the mendacious media™

From the prior thread:

Another reason to end the PBA? They made up the whole fucking story about 3 officers getting poisoned at Shake Shack. No one ever even got sick. 3 officers ordered shakes online and when they went to pick them up, they noted an off taste, threw them out, spoke to a manager, who gave them vouchers for a free shake. That should have been the end of it - but instead, we got a lunatic sideshow where cops accused Shake Shack of attempting to poison cops.

Who’s going to hold Pat Lynch and the PBA responsible? Or the SBA? Because they jumped on the claims that 3 were intentionally poisoned, and then backtracked to claim that it was mistakenly poisoned.

Now we learn there was never anyone poisoned at all. It was all bulkshit on a stick from the lunatics at the PBA who jumped to conclusions, and the NYPD overreacted by calling in ESU to investigate the situation.

The three officers were down from The Bronx, on protest duty in Lower Manhattan, on June 15 when they ordered the now-infamous mid-shift treats via a mobile app around 7:30 p.m., purchasing three shakes across two separate orders, sources said.

Their drinks were waiting for them when they arrived at the Shake Shack on the second floor of 200 Broadway a few minutes later. A female officer picked up her strawberry shake from the front counter, and her two male colleagues grabbed their cherry and vanilla drinks from a side counter, sources said.

Police sources explained it was clear that the workers couldn’t have known cops had placed the orders “since it wasn’t done in person” — and they couldn’t have dosed the drinks after the officers arrived, because they were packaged and waiting for pickup when the trio walked in.

Soon after sipping the shakes, however, the cops realized they didn’t taste or smell right, so they threw the drinks in the trash and alerted a manager, who apologized and issued them vouchers for free food or drink, which they accepted, according to sources.

But when the cops told their sergeant about the incident, the supervisor called in the Emergency Service Unit to set up a crime scene at the fast-food joint for an evidence search around 9:20 p.m. — nearly two hours after they first got the sour shakes.

Let’s recap. They called in an order, and the Shake Shack folks never would have known who were getting them. It wasn’t an in person order.

But someone at the NYPD determined that this was a criminal act to potentially get a bad shake.

Also a massive liberal conspiracy to create a massive oversupply of the stuff in the national stockpile, no doubt. Because ya know, uneducated people believe all kinds of crazy things. Especially when coupled with an authoritarian personality.

That would have been the Hail Mary play of the century if it had worked: Trump would be able to praise himself as a genius, visionary, avatar, savior of the economy and of millions of lives.

Which is why they still cling so desperately to that straw.

63 million spare doses. I suppose it’ll be useful during the period when climate change, brings tropical diseases like malaria to larger parts of America, that’s pretty much guaranteed to happen if we start running in the other direction starting January 20th.

Edit: So it looks like Hydroxychloroquine has a shelf life of just 36 months, so it wouldn’t be useful for medium term climate change fuckage, but instead as lawhawk points out below, it would be much more useful for helping other countries..

That’d be a good question for Pence, since he’s the fucker in charge of the pandemic response and his actions also led to stockpiling this drug and the shortages experienced by those who needed it for their on-label use for things like lupus.

Where’s the media asking those questions.

This evening I’m picking up a new stereo integrated amp from a local Fedex store. I ordered some other stuff at the same time from the same place and it was sent in a separate box to the Fedex store via USPS.

I’ve been on the phone with the Fedex store this morning trying to see if they can accept it. The official answer is that they’d have to refuse it because they won’t accept the responsibility for outside packages. The package would have to go back to Michigan.

I just got a phone call from the manager of the Fedex store and he told me that the second package had come in and he’s holding it for me in his office. Yay for the manager. Boo to the hi-fi store for goofing up the shipment in the first place. I’m sure the only reason that the manager is holding it is because the store also received my other package earlier in the day.

Foxes Caught in Dramatic Squabbles and Sleepy Coils by Photographer Konsta Punkka, This is Colossal.

Each spring, Helsinki-born photographer Konsta Punkka (previously) stakes out dens, showing he’s as clever in strategy as the foxes he’s hoping to encounter. This commitment to hours lying on cold, wet ground for hours on end has afforded a splendid array of photographs depicting the furry creatures as they tussle, play, and sometimes, expend pent-up energy gnawing on cars. “Fox cubs are often naturally very curious, so all you need to do is to keep a safe distance from the den area and just lay in the ground and wait. Most of the time, the fox cubs come to check you out closer,” he tells Colossal.

Adorable photos!

I worked the Census in 1980 in between jobs and I had FED stamped across my forehead judging by the reaction from a few people.
My patience and my ability to look past your ignorance is gone. I put up with more then.
My waterproofing is gone and I’m not standing in your rain.

Trump will lose the popular vote by an even bigger margin than in 2016. His only hope is to thread the needle by winning several states by razor thin margins through vote suppression tactics in urban centers such as Philadelphia, Cleveland, Detroit and Milwaukee. He needs the pandemic to be raging in November so that people will be afraid to go to the polls.

Let’s recap. They called in an order, and the Shake Shack folks never would have known who were getting them. It wasn’t an in person order.

But someone at the NYPD determined that this was a criminal act to potentially get a bad shake.

Re-upping from yesterday (actually from 20 fucking years ago, and Pat Lynch is still standing.

There’s tons of video and audio of him being gross and disgusting towards all sorts of women, including one of his daughters. I honestly think though that things are shifting. Note the boredom of the crowd at his pseudo rally in Tulsa. It’s the same shit over and over again, it’s losing its luster. Doesn’t mean it should be ignored, but not given the level of importance they want.

U.S. Army Soldier Charged with Terrorism Offenses for Planning Deadly Ambush on Service Members in His Unit - DoJ

“… The Department of Justice announced today the unsealing of an indictment charging Ethan Melzer, 22, of Louisville, Kentucky, for allegedly planning an attack on his U.S. Army unit by sending sensitive details about the unit - including information about its location, movements, and security - to members of an extremist organization named Order of the Nine Angles (O9A), an occult-based neo-Nazi and white supremacist group. Melzer is charged with conspiring and attempting to murder U.S. nationals, conspiring and attempting to murder military service members, providing and attempting to provide material support to terrorists, and conspiring to murder and maim in a foreign country. The FBI and the U.S. Army thwarted Melzer’s plot in late-May 2020, and the FBI arrested Melzer on June 10, 2020. The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Gregory Woods.

“As the indictment lays out, Ethan Melzer plotted a deadly ambush on his fellow soldiers in the service of a diabolical cocktail of ideologies laced with hate and violence,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers. “Our women and men in uniform risk their lives for our country, but they should never face such peril at the hands of one of their own. The National Security Division is proud to support the efforts of those who disrupted this planned attack and to seek justice for these acts.” …”

And while some officials have pointed to more widespread testing being done, others say the new cases stem from Americans failing to social distance.

Haven’t heard anything about her in weeks. Most recent national “headline” I saw was back on the 5th, when it was revealed she’d been committing perjury for years in CA criminal courts. There was an effort to float a new “witness,” but that fell flat the moment people pointed out that he said he knew her as “Tara,” when she was allegedly going under her new name at the time.

I said weeks ago that the story wouldn’t make it through the summer and I stand by that. Short of some major new revelation that puts Joe’s denials in question, there’s no point in bringing her up anymore except as an obvious effort in rodent copulation.

One could also make an argument that he was a person of color in a country occupied by Roman legions, and killed as a matter of collusion between some religious and political authorities wanting to get rid of a noisy troublemaker.

That said, it is reported in all four Gospels (which rarely agree on much) that Jesus turned over the moneychangers’ tables in the temple. If I was going to pick a reason for his execution, it would be this kind of act, with its modern echoes in throwing a brick through a plate glass store window. Absolutely guaranteed to get the authorities ’ attention and likely to get one killed.

Oh, btw. I read an article last weekabout not imitating Jesus in this one specific thing, basically because “he’s God and you’re not.” *snort*

99.9% is 3-order of magnitude decrease. It only means anything if we know something about the viral load required to cause infection / disease (which is still being evaluated) and if the air containing the virus is brought in contact with said device. If isn’t going to do fuck all to reduce the virus being swapped by the unmasked mouth-breathers swapping air from 2-feet.

The Coronavirus Pandemic Doesn’t Care That We’re All Bored With It

huffpo
a very good article. 3 minute read. this is the conclusion

It’s all horrible. These things are all true, and they all hurt. They also don’t matter to the virus.

The coronavirus doesn’t care that you want to hold a political rally.

The coronavirus doesn’t care that you’re worried about reelection.

The coronavirus doesn’t care that your business closed or you lost your job.

The coronavirus doesn’t care that schools are closed.

The coronavirus doesn’t care that you’re a Republican or a Democrat.

The coronavirus doesn’t care where you live.

The coronavirus doesn’t care that you miss your family and friends.

The coronavirus doesn’t care that your kids are driving you crazy.

The coronavirus doesn’t care that your children are miserable.

The coronavirus doesn’t care that the weather is nice.

The coronavirus doesn’t care how long it’s been since you had sex.

The coronavirus doesn’t care how bad your hair looks.

There is no coronavirus vaccine. There is no COVID-19 cure. The only tools we have at our disposal are the same ones everybody is fed up with. Staying at home. Hand-washing. Social distancing. Face covering. If we abandon those, it’s going to get worse.

The past few months have felt like eons. But the truly terrifying thing is that if we continue on this path toward pretending the pandemic is over, the nightmare will last even longer. Is that really what we want?

If the past few weeks have been any indication, the answer appears to be “Yes.” Even blue and purple state govs are so desperate to get their economies going again that they’re gambling that masks and social distancing will get them through the summer if not the rest of the year. But they’re also bowing to pressure and treating both as a suggestion, leading to the impression that the outbreak is “over” or at least in remission so everybody can go on summer vacation.

Weird, it was not crowded when I got there, but a bunch of golfers and other assorted terrorourists came in all at once. No masks, crowding the aisles in groups, touching everything in sight and then putting it back on the shelves. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Sigh.

I had to go to the dentist today and was really nervous, but they were great—every patient in a mask until they got to the exam room. Temp checks and disclaimers to fill out—with sterilized pens—I brought my own. Everything wiped down every few minutes.

Problem is that once momentum is built up, it takes an equally powerful force to stop it. Hence the push to “reopen” and stay “reopened” through to November, if only to blame Biden next spring if states start closing down again in the absence of a vaccine.

For one, Dems at the state and local level could get on the same page about masks and social distancing, treating it less as a suggestion and more as a requirement for businesses remaining open. The current waffling and the cases of governors backing off mandatory mask requirements when faced with the threat of violence has led to a perception that nobody’s really taking the threat CV-19 poses seriously. Pointing to CA or NY doesn’t really matter if every other blue/purple state is saying “Look, we’re not telling you what do, we just think it’s a good idea.”

That’s thinking rationally, which we’ve seen on multiple occasions is not how Miller or Trump work. The wingnut belief system says that any job that doesn’t require specialized training (ex: college degree or technical training) is something any idiot can do and thus those jobs going unoccupied means people are “lazy” and “unmotivated.” And they think nothing “motivates” people like the possibility of starvation and/or homelessness.

If you remember from 2009, people generally understood that the economic problems were caused by Republicans, and didn’t blame Obama. That will be true next year.

Even here in Red Texas, a lot of conservatives are wearing masks and not doing a whole lot of stuff they don’t have to. He can’t run it on effectively managing the covid19 crisis, when the US is the outlier among nations that have controlled covid19. Trump doesn’t care how many get sick or die, so long as he had his rallies and he doesn’t care how many of his staffers get sick.

That’s the craziest part - he still has people working for him despite the fact that they’re not social distancing or masking, because Trump thinks that makes you look weak.

This is a fucking disaster for the nation, and he cares only about himself. That’s always been his case.

Oh, and now he openly claims that Obama committed treason. Never mind that this is bogus claim, but it’s projecting like IMAX as Trump always does. If he thinks someone else did it, it’s because he was already engaging in treason.

Trump is a treasonweasel, and this is just more of the same.

try publix, if you have one. they have everybody masked up. they’ve got somebody wiping down carts. they’ve got clear signs indicating which door to go through, etc. Ingles is getting slightly better. Walmart is fucking hopeless. It’s like being in a building with a large number of people eagerly looking forward to dying on a ventilator.

This was at a small Food Lion—the employees are fine (except that the guy who usually stands at the carts wiping them down wasn’t there today) it’s the fucking customers. I went to Fresh Market the other day and it was a delight—just about everyone in masks and really conscientious. I haven’t been to Publix since it all started (have tried to go to the smaller stores) but I am craving their macaroni salad, so might have to give it a try next week!

More like:

I started a joke which started the whole world crying
But I didn’t see that the joke was on me oh no
I started to cry which started the whole world laughing
Oh If I’d only seen that the joke was on me

I looked at the skies running my hands over my eyes
And I fell out of bed hurting my head from things that I said
‘Till I finally died which started the whole world living
Oh if I’d only seen that the joke was on me
